History
The Town of Berne Free Library was charted in 1962. Its first location was up the hill from the bridge in town. After a vehicular collision in 1968 made the building unusable, the library moved to the Old Berne Hotel. This building also housed the town offices and the museum. In 1996, the library changed its name to the Berne Public Library. The library moved to 1763 Helderberg Trail on October 19, 2013. The building was formerly St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church built in 1961. It was renovated to accommodate the library.
